Assam Rifles commemorated 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram” with mass singing events across Cachar, Jiribam, Tamenglong, and Noney districts. Organized under the Srikona Battalion, the celebration witnessed participation of over 1,500 citizens at NIT Silchar, KV Masimpur, and various government schools, promoting unity, patriotism, and cultural pride across the region.
Assam Rifles conducted a lecture on Operation Sindoor at NIT Silchar on August 28, 2025, attended by over 200 students, faculty members, and 210 NCC cadets. The session highlighted the professionalism of the Indian Defence Forces, the role of air defence in national security, and inspired youth to imbibe values of discipline, leadership, and resilience.
NIT Silchar has suspended Dr. D. Koteswara Raju, an assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering department, following allegations of molestation by a first-year female student. The incident has sparked student protests, demanding strict action and a safer campus environment. The administration has referred the case to the Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) for investigation, while discussions with the Assam Police are ongoing. This is not the first complaint against Dr. Raju, raising concerns about repeated misconduct. The NIT Silchar community now awaits the inquiry’s outcome, emphasizing the need for stronger measures against sexual harassment.
