With no evidence of misconduct, the SC lifts the Arunachal Public Service Commission member’s suspension.

The Supreme Court of India, on August 28, 2025, set aside the suspension of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) member Mepung Tadar Bage, finding no evidence of “misbehaviour” in connection with the 2022 Assistant Engineer (Civil) mains examination paper leak case. The Court held that the charges against her did not meet even the threshold of a lapse, let alone misbehaviour, emphasizing that removal of a constitutional officeholder demands clear, direct proof. The Court criticized the state government for arbitrarily recommending her removal without sufficient evidence and highlighted the constitutional safeguards protecting Public Service Commission members from political interference under Article 317 of the Constitution. It noted that while institutional lapses occurred, Bage was not personally implicated, and questioned the contradiction of other resigning members receiving government appointments. The Court ordered her immediate reinstatement with full benefits, reinforcing the principle that Public Service Commission members must be held to high standards but also protected unless solid misconduct is proven.

A guy from Guwahati was arrested for defrauding the Arunachal BSNL tower project of Rs 52 lakh.

A Guwahati-based businessman has been arrested for allegedly duping contractors of over ₹52 lakh in a BSNL tower construction project in Arunachal Pradesh, police said on Wednesday. As BPCL and OIL establish a joint venture, Arunachal will receive a city gas network.

Arunachal Pradesh is set to get its first city gas distribution (CGD) network, following an agreement signed on Tuesday between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Oil India Ltd (OIL) to form a joint venture for the project. The initiative will establish Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to households, industries, and commercial establishments, significantly improving access to clean energy in the state.

The agreement was formalised at BPCL’s corporate office in Mumbai, in the presence of BPCL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Khanna and OIL Chairman and Managing Director Ranjit Rath. Khanna said the move reflects BPCL’s commitment to strengthening energy access in the North-East, while Rath noted that the project builds on OIL’s existing hydrocarbon operations and the recently commissioned Kumchai–Kusijan pipeline, reinforcing the Centre’s hydrocarbon vision for the region.

Authorities said the initiative will not only promote sustainable and inclusive growth but also provide Arunachal Pradesh with a stronger gas-based energy infrastructure, supporting its long-term socio-economic development.

A Sikkim abattoir is being investigated after a buffalo was discovered in a serious condition.

A buffalo in critical condition was found at a slaughterhouse in Majitar, Pakyong district, exposing serious lapses in animal welfare enforcement in Sikkim. The discovery, reported by People For Animals member Ramu Bishwakarma, revealed the animal had visible injuries, swelling, and severe damage to its legs. Veterinary teams confirmed multiple wounds but struggled to provide treatment due to the buffalo’s frail state and unhygienic conditions at the facility.

The case has raised questions over the implementation of the Sikkim Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 2017, which requires official authorisation and humane practices for slaughter. Activists have demanded stricter monitoring of transport routes and slaughterhouses, stressing that ignoring such suffering is both unethical and a violation of law.
