In West Bengal, close to India, the BSF confiscates gold valued at Rs 5 crore.-The border with Bangladesh.

In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized 43 gold biscuits weighing 5.017 kg, worth around ₹5 crore, during a special operation near the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Coochbehar district on August 30. Acting on specific intelligence, troops of the 138 Battalion under Guwahati Frontier intercepted the consignment, which was being smuggled into India from Bangladesh through a sensitive stretch of the border.

BSF officials said the seizure underscores intensified efforts to curb gold smuggling and other transnational crimes in North Bengal, a known hotspot for contraband movement. An investigation has been launched to trace the networks behind the attempted smuggling.
