Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday announced that Assam has recorded the highest utilisation of the Centre’s Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) fund. Speaking at the inauguration of the Brahmaputra Riverfront project in Guwahati, she praised the state government for effectively using the 50-year, interest-free central loans to build hospitals, roads, and infrastructure. “Assam tops the list,” she said, crediting the state for creating assets while protecting livelihoods.
Sitharaman inaugurated two major projects — the Gateway of Guwahati, including a terminal and jetty worth ₹305 crore, and the ₹327-crore Brahmaputra Riverfront project at Sati Radhika Udyan. She highlighted that urban growth in Assam balanced development with the livelihoods of local fishers, calling it “an example of good governance.”
During her two-day visit, the Finance Minister inspected the ₹27,000-crore Tata Electronics semiconductor project at Jagiroad and will lay the foundation stone of the ₹400-crore Swahid Kanaklata Barua State University in Gohpur.
