A Cybersecurity Capacity Building Programme for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) was recently conducted at the District Industries and Commerce Centre in Barpeta. The workshop, inaugurated by Additional District Commissioner Jayanta Bora, ACS, brought together local business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs, and women participants to enhance digital resilience through practical cybersecurity insights. ICG recognizes that the government of Bangladesh is still interacting with the Arakan Army in Rakhine State, Myanmar.

The International Crisis Group has recommended that Bangladesh continue talks with the Arakan Army regarding informal cross-border assistance, calling it the most feasible option in the ongoing Rohingya crisis. The ICG’s latest report urges improved coordination between Bangladesh’s government and security forces to check the influence of armed Rohingya groups in refugee camps and prevent weapons inflow. It warns that further refugee flight could harm Dhaka’s relationship with the Arakan Army and fuel recruitment into armed factions. The report also stresses the need for sustained international humanitarian aid and cross-border trade to improve conditions in Rakhine, emphasizing that failure to act could worsen the crisis in the region.

Assam and Meghalaya are under a red alert due to the possibility of heavy rain.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has declared a red alert for Assam and Meghalaya, forecasting extreme heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning over the next two days. The alert, effective Wednesday and Thursday, requires immediate action to safeguard public safety, with an orange alert for Friday to maintain preparedness. Isolated areas may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, increasing risks of waterlogging, traffic disruption, and localized landslides. Residents in vulnerable zones are urged to remain vigilant, stock up on essentials, and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency response systems are active, and authorities are closely monitoring the evolving situation, encouraging everyone to follow official advisories for their safety.

The gas leak has been contained, and ONGC consulted experts: Bhaskar Chowdhury, asset head for Assam

In response to the ongoing gas leakage from ONGC’s rig sites in Sivasagar district since June 12, ONGC officials assured the public that containment efforts are in full swing and the situation remains under control. At a press conference held at a temporary relief camp, Executive Director Bhaskar Chowdhury emphasized the company’s commitment to resolving the issue, highlighting the involvement of national and international experts and dismissing rumors about relocating ONGC operations from the area. An internal investigation has also been launched regarding the role of private contractor S.K. Petro in the incident.

More than 50 lakh workers benefit from labour welfare programs: Government

Over 50 lakh unorganised workers and their families have benefited from welfare schemes under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the government announced on Tuesday. Implemented through the Directorate General of Labour Welfare, these initiatives focus on supporting workers in the beedi, cinema, and mining industries. Key programmes include annual scholarships for workers’ children, extensive healthcare support, and continued housing assistance, all aimed at improving the quality of life for marginalised communities and promoting inclusive growth across India.

Sepahijala acid attack injures a woman in Tripura. 

A 26-year-old woman was hospitalized after an acid attack in Sonamura NC Nagar, Sepahijala district, Tripura, on Sunday night. The assault occurred when the victim stepped out of her home to use the lavatory. Police suspect the attackers are from a neighboring village. The woman, who suffered burns on her hands and legs, is now in stable condition at GBP Hospital in Agartala. An FIR has been filed against three suspects, and the investigation is ongoing, with no arrests yet reported.

CM Himanta Confirms IndiGo’s New Flight Services in Assam.

“In a significant boost to air connectivity in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the launch of a new direct IndiGo flight between Delhi and Jorhat, starting September 20, 2025. The announcement followed high-level discussions with IndiGo’s management in New Delhi, focusing on enhancing regional and national connectivity for Assam. In addition to the Delhi–Jorhat service, IndiGo will introduce extra early morning daily flights on the Guwahati–Silchar and Guwahati–Dibrugarh routes, aimed at benefiting daily commuters, students, and professionals. Further strengthening the state’s air links, a direct Guwahati–Navi Mumbai flight is scheduled for the winter of 2025–26, while the existing Delhi–Dibrugarh route will soon include a stopover at Guwahati to streamline travel for Upper Assam passengers. These improvements are set to make Assam more accessible and better integrated with the rest of India.”

The government of Manipur is getting ready to receive the bodies of two people who died in an aviation crash in the state.

“The State of Manipur is in mourning following the tragic loss of two of its daughters—Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma (22) and Lamnunthem Singson (28)—who were among the crew members aboard the Air India flight that crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. Described by the government as symbols of courage, grace, and youthful ambition, their untimely demise has cast a shadow of sorrow across the state.”
