Five Manipur districts have lifted their internet service bans.

The Manipur government on Friday lifted the suspension of internet and mobile data services in five valley districts—Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur—from 6 a.m. onward. The suspension, originally imposed on June 7 for five days, followed violent protests triggered by the arrest of Arambai Tenggol leader Ashem Kanan Singh by the CBI at Imphal airport. With improved law and order and to ease public inconvenience, the government decided to restore internet access. Earlier, curfew hours were relaxed in these districts, and the Arambai Tenggol group also announced a relaxation of its shutdown call. Along with Abhijit Gogoi and Jahnu Boruah, he faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Explosive Substances Act. The trio was linked to IEDs planted at Dispur Last Gate in Guwahati as part of a broader ULFA (I) plan to disrupt Independence Day celebrations. According to the NIA, the explosives were intended to cause death, injury, property destruction, and to threaten the unity and sovereignty of India by spreading terror among the public.

Drug raid in Manipur: Meth worth Rs 22 cr was found along the Indo-Myanmar border.

In a major crackdown on organized drug syndicates, security forces in Manipur, with support from the Assam Rifles, seized over 57 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately Rs. 22 crores. The illicit consignment, smuggled through the Indo-Myanmar border and bound for Silchar, Assam, was intercepted in Imphal West district after being concealed in the roof ceiling of a Tata truck. The driver, Nawaj Sharif, was arrested at the scene. Efforts are currently underway to control a continuous gas leak from the RDS#147A well near Bhotiapar in ONGC’s Rudrasagar field, Sivasagar district. Following a dangerous explosion at the site on June 12, natural gas began gushing out uncontrollably, causing widespread panic and prompting the evacuation of around 70 families to a relief camp. Access to the site remains restricted to operational personnel due to the hazardous conditions, while local residents and authorities are urgently calling for swift containment and enhanced safety measures.
