The Manipur government on Friday lifted the suspension of internet and mobile data services in five valley districts—Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur—from 6 a.m. onward. The suspension, originally imposed on June 7 for five days, followed violent protests triggered by the arrest of Arambai Tenggol leader Ashem Kanan Singh by the CBI at Imphal airport. With improved law and order and to ease public inconvenience, the government decided to restore internet access. Earlier, curfew hours were relaxed in these districts, and the Arambai Tenggol group also announced a relaxation of its shutdown call. The government urged citizens to avoid activities that could lead to further internet shutdowns.
