While travelling to Jalpaiguri, six citizens of Bangladesh were detained in Tripura.

“Acting on a tip-off, personnel from the 154th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday detained six Bangladeshi nationals—including a child—at Ambassa Railway Station in Dhalai district, Tripura. The group, all residents of Bagerhat district in Bangladesh, had allegedly entered Tripura illegally with the help of an intermediary and planned to travel to Jalpaiguri in West Bengal in search of work. During interrogation, one detainee admitted to crossing the border about a month ago after being introduced to a contact in Agartala. Photographs of the group were sent in advance to a Jalpaiguri-based agent. After questioning, the detainees are set to be handed over to Ambassa Police and produced before the court. The incident highlights ongoing challenges of cross-border migration and trafficking in the region.”

New air connections between Agartala and Bagdogra and Silchar would improve regional connectivity.

“Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport has expanded its air connectivity with the launch of new direct flights linking Agartala to Bagdogra and the resumption of flights to Silchar after nearly 30 years. Air India Express has inaugurated the Agartala–Bagdogra route, while IndiGo is set to resume Agartala–Silchar flights, marking significant enhancements in regional access. The newly built 30,000 sq. metre terminal at MBB Airport can handle both domestic and international passengers during peak hours, solidifying its status as the Northeast’s second-busiest airport after Guwahati. With direct air links to ten key Indian cities and future plans to start international services to Chittagong, the airport is recognized for its modern facilities and rising importance as a regional hub. Land for the airport, like several others in Tripura, was donated by the state’s royal family, and the site played a strategic role in World War II, having been bombed by Japanese aircraft in 1943. The airport currently ranks tenth nationally for customer satisfaction and manages 4,000 to 5,000 passengers daily with up to 16 flights per day.”

HC requests an update on Mizoram highway repairs and issues a strict warning for any delays.

“The Aizawl bench of the Gauhati High Court has directed MSJ Infratech, the contractor responsible for repairing the Sairang–Kawnpui stretch of NH-306/06, to file an affidavit by October 31 detailing the current progress and expected completion timeline of repairs. This order was issued while reviewing a public interest litigation submitted by the Mizoram Truck Drivers’ Association, which highlighted the persistent dilapidation of this critical highway segment. The court cautioned that if the report is not submitted on time, officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) would be summoned to appear before the court on November 6, the next hearing date. The PIL underscores the worsened condition of this vital road—Mizoram’s main supply route—particularly after the recent monsoon, severely disrupting transport and endangering commuters. The court’s intervention comes amid growing public frustration over the lack of substantive progress in restoring the state’s key transport lifeline.”

Next week, the Election Commission will start updating voter lists throughout India.

“The Election Commission of India will announce the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists on Monday. The SIR exercise will take place in multiple phases, starting with Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. States with local body elections underway will be excluded from the first phase and included later. The SIR is a comprehensive update and cleanup of electoral rolls, requiring all registered voters to submit fresh enumeration forms. The primary objective is to ensure accurate, updated voter lists and to identify and remove illegal entries, especially by verifying place of birth. Bihar completed its SIR in September 2025, with the final roll published ahead of its November elections. Most other states last conducted an intensive revision between 2002 and 2004, and the new SIR aims to address demographic changes, migration, and possible duplicate or foreign entries on the rolls.”

A woman was discovered dead in a Guwahati flat amid claims of drug abuse and a romantic triangle.

Police in Guwahati have launched an in-depth probe following the recovery of Riya Rajbongshi’s body from a rented house in Hatigaon’s Lakhimi Nagar on October 24. The accused, Rohan Kashyap alias Nayan Das, who had been in a live-in relationship with tenant Banjita Rabha, was arrested after initially absconding. Police seized drugs, containers, and ₹1.5 lakh in cash from the scene. Das claimed the victim died of a drug overdose, though investigators are probing possible trafficking links and foul play. He later led police to Maa Kamakhya Hotel in Ulubari, where two mobile phones and 13 grams of suspected brown sugar were recovered. Both accused remain under interrogation as the investigation continues.

The public hearing for the Subansiri Upper Hydro Project has been rescheduled for October 28 in Arunachal.

Originally set for October 30, it will now be held on October 28, 2025 (Monday) at the Menga Government Secondary School in Upper Subansiri district.

According to Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo, residents from the Siyum, Taliha, Payeng, Jaring, Daporijo, Gusar, and Dumporijo circles—areas likely affected by the project—are encouraged to participate.

However, the initiative faces strong local opposition. Residents and student groups have protested, demanding the project’s cancellation, with major demonstrations earlier this month in front of the DC’s office and the Daporijo district headquarters.
