To change Meghalaya’s tourism scene, the Rs 300-crore Sohra Tourism Circuit was established.

The Centre and Meghalaya government laid the foundation for the Rs. 300-crore Integrated Development of the Sohra Tourism Circuit, a flagship project under the PM-DevINE scheme. Aimed at boosting tourism infrastructure and sustainable livelihoods, the initiative will develop major attractions like Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Eco Park, and several caves and viewpoints. Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma highlighted the project’s role in transforming Sohra into a model of eco-friendly, community-led tourism, reflecting Prime Minister Modi’s vision for the Northeast’s growth. The project is expected to set a national benchmark for responsible tourism and generate local employment, with the state also working on improved air and helicopter connectivity to enhance accessibility

“Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Sansad Khel Mahotsav at the historic Chowkidingee playground in Dibrugarh, with enthusiastic participation from hundreds of young athletes and sports enthusiasts. The event, organized under the patronage of MP Sarbananda Sonowal and in collaboration with the Dibrugarh District Sports Association, aims to promote sports culture and provide a platform for Under-19 athletes to showcase their talent. The Mahotsav involves a three-level competition—Village, Block/Ward, and parliamentary constituency—and includes sports such as Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Athletics, and indigenous games like Khoko, Kabaddi, Pithu, and Tug of War. This initiative is a celebration of talent and teamwork intended to identify young sporting talents who can represent India at national and international platforms, including the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics. When it comes to adopting a plan to encourage the use of solar energy in the agricultural sector, Tripura leads the Northeast states.

“Tripura has secured the first position among all northeastern states in implementing the PM-KUSUM scheme, a programme to promote solar energy use in the agricultural sector. The Tripura Renewable Energy Development Authority (TREDA) has successfully implemented solar-powered irrigation systems that replace diesel pumps, reducing irrigation costs and pollution while increasing farmer incomes. This recognition reflects Tripura government’s commitment to clean energy, rural empowerment, and sustainable development. Recently, Tripura’s Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath received the prestigious award from Union Minister for Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi during the Regional Workshop held in Guwahati. The scheme has led to the installation of thousands of solar irrigation pumps, solar street lights, and solar drinking water units across the state, illuminating remote hamlets and transforming rural livelihoods. Tripura is also exploring expanding renewable energy initiatives, including a potential Hydrogen Valley Hub for green hydrogen blending and export.”​

a game played sitting on ponies holding with a hockey stick of having a long slender embedded with a mallet at one end, is one of the richest heritage games of Manipur. It was popularly played as a pastime game or side by side as a martial drill of the Manipuris particularly during those days of state formation. Surely, those unknown patriarchs never knew that the game of Sagol Kangjei which has been modified by the Britishers under the nomenclature of Polo is going to be a precious gift to the world. Its uniqueness lies where perfect coordination is the absolute need between two exclusive species, the human being and the animal i.e. ponies, where both require the inherent characteristics of strength, sturdiness and dexterity.

It is believed that Sagol Kangjei, the traditional polo of Manipur, was first introduced during the time of King Kangba who reigned in Manipur by making his capital at Kangmong village, about 16 kms from Imphal towards Tiddim Road much before the emergence of the Christian era. Meitei mythologies often narrate that the ancestors of the Meiteis and certain Sylvan deities such as Marjing, Thanging, Wangbren, Koubru, Nogpok Ningthou, Ekop Ningthou etc., representing different principalities, played Sagol Kangjei regularly. Elements of Sagol Kangjei are found often webbed into certain ritual fabrics of Meitei culture.”

This traditional game is the origin of modern polo, which the British adapted in the 19th century and popularized worldwide. Efforts to revive Manipur Polo seek to honor this heritage and promote it as a symbol of cultural identity and economic opportunity through sports tourism.

Adivasi council in Assam cautions government over 42 communities’ omission from the SC list.

The Adivasi Tea Tribe Scheduled Caste Demand Council has cautioned the Assam government that excluding 42 Adivasi communities from the Scheduled Caste list could trigger major unrest across the state. Speaking at the Dhekiajuli Press Club, Council President Dipen Nayak, Chief Advisor Sanjay Kumar Tanti, and General Secretary Daulat Rajowar urged the inclusion of all 78 Adivasi communities—36 from the first expert committee report and 42 from the second—in line with the 2022 Adivasi Peace Accord. The Council accused some groups of attempting to divide Adivasi unity and pledged to continue its constitutional movement until full recognition is granted.

Operation Praghat earns the Assam Police STF a national prize.

The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has been honoured with the Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak (KGDP) 2025 in the Special Operations category for its success in Operation Praghat, a multi-state counter-terrorism mission that dismantled a jihadi network operating across Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala. Led by Inspector General Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the STF arrested eight suspects, including a Bangladeshi national linked to the banned Ansarullah Bangla Team. The operation prevented attempts to radicalise youth and incite communal unrest. Instituted in 2024 by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the KGDP recognises exceptional police work across India, with 1,466 personnel honoured this year.

Assam Downtown University hosted a two-day program for education officers on innovation, design, and entrepreneurship in Guwahati.

A two-day “Capacity Building Workshop on Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship (IDE)” was jointly organized by the Department of School Education and Literacy, AICTE, and the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell at Assam down town University, Guwahati, from October 30–31, 2025. Conducted in collaboration with the Wadhwani Foundation, the program aimed to strengthen district-level officials’ understanding of innovation, design thinking, and entrepreneurship in line with NEP 2020. Senior officials from AICTE and the Ministry inaugurated the event, which saw participation from over 60 District Education Officers and DIET members. Sessions included design thinking exercises, collaborative problem-solving activities, and discussions on integrating entrepreneurship into education.
