In Jharkhand, a CRPF jawan was slain. IED bomb buried in Nagaon, Assam

B O News Desk : The mortal remains of CRPF head constable Mahendra Laskar, who lost his life in an IED explosion in Jharkhand, were laid to rest with full honours at his native village in Assam’s Nagaon district on Sunday.

Laskar’s body was brought to his home in Kuwariati village under Kampur area earlier in the day and handed over to his family by CRPF officials.

As the tricolour-draped coffin arrived, grief-stricken villagers gathered in large numbers to pay their final respects to the fallen soldier.

The cremation ceremony was attended by Nagaon MLAs Jitu Goswami and Sashi Kanta Das, District Commissioner Devashish Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police Swapnaneel Deka, and CRPF Inspector General Virendra Kumar, among other dignitaries.

Expressing condolences, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma wrote on X, “Condolences to the family of braveheart HC/GD Mahendra Laskar of CRPF from Nagaon who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Jharkhand. My thoughts are with his family in this hour of grief. The nation will remember his sacrifice with gratitude.”

Laskar sustained critical injuries, along with two other personnel, in twin IED blasts triggered in Jharkhand’s Saranda forest area of West Singhbhum district on Friday.

He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Rourkela, Odisha, on Saturday.

Security officials suspect that the improvised explosive devices were planted by members of the banned CPI (Maoist) group to target security forces engaged in anti-insurgency operations in the region.
